2023 Year in Review

2023 for a banner year for investing in the lives of at-risk women, children, and people groups around the world! In this year in review article we’ll try to highlight key events and activities as we embarked to fulfill our mission and expand the work of iGive Global. Let’s dive into the details.

New Board Members Start!

In 2023 we were thrilled to have new board members start who have lots of value to add to the input and oversight of iGive Global. Women entrepreneurs Jessika Phillips and Viveka von Rosen were key additions to give a strong voice to women-owned-businesses. As well, Will Rosenberg, a keynote speaker and artist with a lot of global experience joined the board. And last but definitely not least, Jim Fuhs, a livestream sales expert and vet from the Atlanta area joined our board to lend his expertise.

Without a strong board to give input and guidance a lot of the key activities discussed below would not have occurred!

48 Micro-Business Loans Invested In

We have had the opportunity to invest in the micro-loan needs and opportunities of 48 people. As per our mission, most of these are at-risk women or people groups including refugees. We typically invest through Kiva and we are one part of a larger pool of organizations making the loans so in each case we are not the sole loan provider. In each case, there is local oversight, coaching, and accountability for training and repayment. We invest from as little as $25 to multiple hundreds of dollars. The repayment rate is 99% and iGive Global has over $5500 invested in micro-finance loans active currently. It is truly a “gift that keeps on giving” because as repayments are made we use those funds to again invest in another person and their loan need.

Our loans have supported persons in 17 different countries, with Ecuador having the most loans active at 26 (not all initiated in 2023). The majority of the loans have been in Latin America but we also have loans in the Middle East, Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe.

3 Orphanages Supported

While we like to invest using mico-finance loans where entrepreneurship and business startup and growth are involved, we realize that many children are in a very vulnerable position and of course, are not starting businesses. Our way of investing in the lives of children to help them have their needs met and a future ahead is to support orphanages or single mothers. We currently regularly contribute to three orphanages, 2 in Ecuador, and 1 in Belize.

To continue our year in review, in 2023 we were able to invest nearly $5,000 in these 3 orphanages and even better is that in some cases our investments were matched, doubling the impact. As well, Mike was able to visit all 3 orphanages in 2023 to be on-site and get to know more about each location and the impact we can have.

Ironman 70.3 Fundraiser

The largest fundraiser event we pulled off in 2023 was Mike’s Ironman 70.3 fundraiser where he raised over $3,000 for the three orphanages. The task was to complete the Ironman 70.3 in Wilmington, North Carolina, which consisted of a 1.2 mile swim, a 56 mile bike, and finishing with a 13.1 mile half marathon run. The mission was accomplished as the $3000 goal was met and in November Mike was able to visit the two orphanages in Quito, Ecuador which each received over $1,000.

New 3P Consulting Services and Impact Community Launched

In a groundbreaking endeavor, iGive Global launched a strategic vision plan to further the mission of the organization by offering consulting services and starting an online community for business professionals called the Impact Community. Both endeavors focus on helping businesses and leaders look at implementing a stronger “triple bottom line” focus in their areas of leadership. These three areas focus on People, Profits, and the Planet, or the 3P’s. Consulting services and the Impact Community are services offered that generate income and funds to further the mission of iGive Global.

Looking Ahead

Building on the momentum of 2023 discussed above in our year in review, the next year we have some ambitious goals to raise and contribute more funds. One of the keys is to offer Vision Trips with the first being at the being of April 2024 to Ecuador.

Vision Trips are unforgettable experiences where we sit with, learn from, and build relationships with women, children, and people groups like those we support! They are unforgettable because of the people connections but also because there is an opportunity to get into the Amazon jungle, the heights of the Andes mountains, and to sit with businesses, large and small, who are implementing the 3P’s. There are currently openings for the 2024 spring Vision Trip team being formed and the plan is to offer a fall trip as well.
